Dryer Vent Cleaning in Eatontown, NJ

Why does a short vent run in Eatontown still clog?
Short does not mean clear. Eatontown is a Monmouth County borough three miles from the ocean. The 1950s–60s Cape Cods and small ranches off the Route 35/36 corridor near the former Fort Monmouth were built fast, during the Army-era build-out. Those ranches typically vent out the side wall within 4–8 ft of the dryer. Short run, one elbow, done. The trouble is the elbow itself. Homeowners push the dryer tight against the wall. The foil transition behind it crushes flat. Lint stacks at the crimp and never leaves.
Salt air is the second half of it. Coastal humidity and salt corrode the exterior hood flaps. The hinge seizes. Flaps stick open and let rain in. Insects and birds nest inside. Or flaps stick shut and dam the lint. Dryers here run longer year-round than inland Monmouth, so the lint load is heavier too.
Garden apartments and the newer rental complexes are a different animal. Those units use interior laundry closets with vertical shaft venting. You cannot see the termination from inside. Shared shafts mean one neighbor's lint becomes everybody's problem.
Go look at your hood during a cycle. If the flap is frozen or crusted, the run behind it is loaded.

Frequently Asked Questions
My dryer is only a few feet from the outside wall — why would it still clog up?
That short side-wall run is the most common setup in Eatontown's 1950s and '60s Capes and ranches. Short doesn't mean clean. Most of those laundry areas are tight, so the dryer gets shoved back against the wall and the flexible duct behind it gets crushed or kinked. Lint piles up at that pinch point instead of blowing through, and a 4 to 8 foot run can choke off just as badly as a long one. We check the transition hose behind the machine first on these houses. That's usually where the problem is.
The flap on my outside vent hood doesn't move anymore. Is that related?
Almost certainly. We're about three miles from the ocean here, and salt air eats at the metal hoods and the little hinges on the flaps. They end up stuck open, which lets in moisture, pests and cold air, or stuck shut, which traps everything your dryer is trying to push out. A stuck-shut flap will back lint up into the duct fast. Cleaning the duct is only half the job if the hood is corroded. We'll tell you straight if it's seized and needs replacing rather than just cleaning it and calling it done.
How soon can someone get out to my place?
Eatontown is a small borough and we're working the Route 35 and 36 corridor regularly, so we're usually out within a few days. If your dryer is running hot, shutting off mid-cycle, or you're smelling anything scorched, say so when you call and we'll move you up. Same-day does happen here more often than in spread-out towns, mostly because a cancellation nearby doesn't cost us an hour of driving to fill.
What makes one job cost more than another in this area?
The straight side-wall ranch runs are on the simpler end: short duct, easy outside access, in and out. What drives the number up is a crushed or collapsed section that has to be replaced rather than cleaned, a corroded hood that won't reseal, or an apartment or condo unit venting into a vertical shaft, which takes longer and sometimes needs roof-side access. We can usually tell you over the phone which category you're in based on your house type and where the dryer sits.
I'm in one of the garden apartment complexes — is this even my responsibility?
Depends on your lease and your management company, so check first. What we can tell you is that those units vent from an interior laundry closet into a shared vertical shaft, and the run from your closet into that shaft is a different animal than a ranch's side-wall vent. Lint collects at the elbow where the duct turns up, and because the dryer is boxed in a closet with no airflow, heat builds. If management handles the shaft but not the individual unit connection, that connection is often the part nobody has touched. We work with both residents and property managers here.
